Do you just need a decent starter bar to bench press with? This bar will do the job. It's an economy bar, but it is stronger than some cheapo bars included in 300lb weight sets sold at other places. This bar is included in most 300lb weight sets sold here. And unlike the bars in other manufacturer's sets, this bar really does weigh 44 lbs and is not a super-cheap version that weighs in at 35-40 lbs.

Although this bar has a 500lb static test, that does not factor in the torque during certain exercises. Just to give you an idea, you would probably be okay using this bar for bench press up to 400lbs, deadlift up to 300lbs, and squat up to 300lbs. But if you drop the loaded bar hard on a rack, those estimates are out the window.
